I attended literacy classes from 1998 to 2008 in English and French.
Before attending the classes I was employed as a shop assistant. Then I lacked confidence to communicate in English and French.
After successfully completing my course I got employed as a chambermaid. I am now able to read and understand what goes on. I am able to “communicate with people, especially tourists in English and French. I feel more comfortable while socializing with different people. And I can read the Bible in English and French and I am able to better understand the priest.

I attended my first course with the ALDEC Institution in 2004 where I did O level in Mathematics. I wanted to further develop my knowledge and skills in mathematics since I am currently working in the Statistics department. I thought that ALDEC would be the ideal Institution to enable me to do that. Classes were held twice a week after working hours from 4.30pm to 6pm. With determination and good instructions from the teacher I was able to follow through the course and obtain a good grade.
In the process of wanting to continue to further my knowledge through the numerous courses that ALDEC offers, I decided to do IGCSE Accounting in 2007. I studied a lot and that enabled me to always do well in my mid-term exams and I excelled when I sat my final Cambridge exam where I scored an A*.
I see ALDEC as a gateway to keep on furthering my studies no matter how old I get and no matter what level of education I have attained in life. So I encourage others, If you had lost the opportunity of scoring high grades when schooling and you still want to do better, ALDEC is there to offer you a second chance. As long as ALDEC still exists I will definitely continue to take the opportunities that they offer wisely to keep on developing my knowledge and further upgrade my qualifications.

I followed the course “Business Communication in English Levels 1 & 2 by distance in 2008 with ALDEC. I enrolled on the course because I felt that I should broaden my knowledge and writing skills so as to help me in my profession.
Since the course was not delivered in a classroom I found time to be in contact with my tutor. She was one of a kind that kept me busy and foresaw that I respect deadlines for assignments. The final task was very demanding. The tutor has inspired me to be a more responsible adult.
The course was a delightful experience for me since I got the opportunity to learn about communication in a very interesting and lively manner. Communication is vital in today’s world and I learnt a lot about non-verbal communication which has helped me in my everyday communication activities.
The knowledge and skills which I had learnt from this course has helped me to be more confident and therefore perform my duties effectively.
I would strongly recommend other students who are willing to enroll on a similar course to take this opportunity now. You will not regret it. Remember the K.I.S.S. Rule: Keep it Short and Simple.

I have been attending literacy classes since 2001. I completed the English and Mathematics programmes.
Before I joined the literacy class with ALDEC I lacked confidence in dealing with written documents and I also lacked confidence to communicate in family socials.
As a result of following the Literacy classes I was able to attend the Seychelles Hotel Tourism Training centre for further studies. I am now employed in House Keeping. Nowadays I am able to read and write in family circles and I am contributing in the development of the community with confidence.

I decided to enroll on the Business Communication in English course to upgrade my command of the language and develop other skills that would help me in my daily duties as an Assistant Management Support Officer. In this post my main duties are to study cases, make analysis and write correspondences and reports. The encouragement to follow the course came from my employer.
I started off with Level 1 and followed throughout with much interest and succeeded with a distinction at the end. That gave me much encouragement to continue with Level 2. Again, I succeeded with a distinction.
I am currently following Level 3, and I am confident that I will be successful again. Upon completion of Level 3, I intend to sit for the City and Guilds exam in November this year.
After following the course, I have made remarkable improvement in my command of the English language. I can now communicate more effectively and I am more confident whilst dealing with clients. I feel more confident to write important official documents such as minutes, reports and even testimonials.
In the future, I intend to undertake Management training. The course that I have followed in Business Communication in English will serve as a good foundation to permit me to pursue further training with ease.
I strongly encourage others to follow the course. Perseverance and dedication are especially important as the courses are run in the evening after work. As such, careful balance is required between training, work, family and social life. As a mother, it was not always easy for me, but thanks to the support of my husband, I managed to complete levels 1 and 2 of the course successfully.
It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to continue one’s education in adulthood. It allows you to catch up on the chances that you have missed out during school days as well as giving you a chance to refresh and recap on what you might have forgotten.
